Shipping
There are several shipping options available for configuration through the backend. These configured settings will apply to all purchases made through the store.
Shipping Methods
Shipping Defined Per Product
Like you might think, using this setting allows you to set individual shipping prices for every item in your store. If you use this option, you’ll need to:
1. make sure that you have a shipping cost (name it whatever you like) in each of your product weblogs
2. under the product weblog options, make sure to map this field to the shipping cost
Shipping Defined By Weight
To use this option you need to:
1. set a shipping weight for each item
2. under the product weblog options, make sure to map this field to the weight field
Shipping Defined By Weight-Threshold
For each threshold level, the shipping cost will be increased. For instance, from 1-10lbs might cost $10, 11-20lbs might cost $20, and 20-100lbs might cost $50. You can set this value on a per item, or per lb/kg weight. If the cost is figured per item each item’s shipping cost will be calculated individually, if it’s set per lb/kg the weight of the entire cart will be used.
To use this option you need to:
1. set a shipping weight for each item
2. under the product weblog options, make sure to map this field to the weight field.
Customer Selectable Flat Rates
This is a great option if you sell something that costs a specific amount to send, or if you plan to provide flat shipping rates. You can create multiple shipping options, for instance: Standard, Priority, Overnight, Super Saver Shipping. There is also an option to set a threshold “Free” rate based on the cost of the cart. For instance you could set this value to be ‘50’ and all carts over $50 would be able to select this option for free.
Adding Additional Shipping Options
Shipping plugins can be added to the system by placing new shipping plugins in the system>extensions>cartthrob>shipping_plugins folder. Once placed in the folder, visit the CartThrob extensions panel to configure the new shipping plugin. We will be adding new shipping options as our customers request them.
