CartThrob is a versatile, flexible cart system. CartThrob lets you build with your ideas in mind, not shortcomings of the technology.
Southern Coast Distillers is a gathering of 3 blokes who all share a passion for fine Whisky (& rum). Being relatively new to the scene hasn’t stopped them from creating some multi-award winning Whisky. The crunch came when they approached us to build a website to sell their wares, a small budget and a big list - CartThrob to the rescue. We looked at a few others but none had the flexibility, this seemingly simple site , required, in fact I can’t see any e-commerce site NOT powered by CartThrob in our future.
Burn Card Clothing are a new clothing company who make original t-shirts themed on classic, old-school playing cards. The developers didn’t want to use a generic out of the box shopping cart as they too often end up looking the same. According to Russ at Burn Card Clothing with CartThrob; “It was as easy as finding the elements we wanted to use and dropping them into our EE templates. If we did get stuck, the support was always right there.”
This site looks so great it’s hard to remember that they’re actually selling something when you first take a look. Originally developer Anthony Collini tried creating this website on different ecommerce software, but “the problem was that the other solutions feel too much like a third party shopping cart without the native EE functionality that we’re all used to, and therefore are limited to what they can accomplish out of the box… I switched over the cart in a day and was able to easily implement the features I couldn’t in other shopping carts.”
Thomas Winterstetter’s cart is nicely tucked into an overall well designed site. The flexibility of CartThrob enables a profound cohesiveness to the entire system. Thomas provides guidance to organizations, corporate clients and individuals as an independent adviser, backup, and based on this solidly executed site, it’s easy to see why.
The Amcal pharmacy site sells over 2000 products to the New Zealand market. A one-page checkout process has increased sales and lowered checkout time, and custom modal window popups have also helped speed up the process of buying and checking out.
Steve from Xeno Web Development had this to say: “From day one CartThrob support was outstanding… set up was easy and the build was enjoyable. Our client loves their new site; especially when they check the CartThrob reports and see that sales are booming. Nice work guys”
For this website, the goal was to stop using a third-party registration system which the client had outgrown and to bring the whole site into Expression Engine. Developer Debra Weiss used Solspace’s Calendar module for the calendar, and instead of CartThrob functioning as a “shopping cart”, it’s being used as a booking and registration system. According to Debra “it’s doing it very, very well.” She’s also happy for the coupon system: “[it’s] working out great for thousands of Groupon and Living Social customers.”
From Liam Crean: “The second and largest project we’ve used CartThrob for. The brief seemed simple - create a fully featured E-shop for our customers. The requirements were a little more tricky. With a large range of products, product options, categories, product sets, sale options, colours, images and sizes + numerous ways to display content + a host of EE add-ons… the project soon snowballed into a monster of yeti-esque proportions.”
Description: Franklin Arts creates contemporary wall art for homes, offices, and commercial spaces. Artworks are customized to fit clients’ taste and space perfectly. CartThrob provided the flexibility necessary to present the numerous artwork options to potential buyers, and the ease with which it integrated with the rest of ExpressionEngine, and by extension, the rest of the site, saved me a lot of pressure and stress. I’ve worked with other shopping cart solutions, and even built a few myself, and CartThrob is by far the best one I’ve used.
Bionic Turtle is a practice and training website for the risk and finance industries. This site was developed by Shawn Maida (eecoder) and designed by Creative Soapbox. Shawn had the following to say about the project:
“we replaced a custom ordering system with an extended version of CartThrob. The results have been fantastic and the client has been thrilled. 15,000+ members access subscription controlled content on Bionic Turtle with CartThrob sitting at the very heart of the system.”
In addition to CartThrob’s out of the box capabilities, it was also extended to add new functionality for this project. Some of the additions include Cybersource API Integration for payment processing, Paypal Express API Integration for payment processing, iContact API Integration for newsletter subscriptions, Third Party API Integration for communicating successful order transactions to affiliates, Custom Content Access Controls provide category and status based content access
The CartThrob team is pretty impressed with what Shawn and his team built. It’s a well designed and well built system, and really shows what you can do with CartThrob as the foundation of a larger system.
