Some order fields blank (PayPal Standard)

We’ve set up PayPal Standard as an alternate method of payment and some data/info isn’t coming through in EE.

We have just a few gateway fields for paypal standard: first name, last name and email address (i.e., billing names and customer email).

The order itself does seem to get processed - the total, transaction ID, items, subtotal, shipping cost and a few other fields get filled in. However, the following fields do not:

- customer phone
- shipping names (first, last)
- shipping address (address, address 2, city, state, zip, country code)
- billing address (address, address2, city - others ok)

I’m wondering why these fields don’t get filled in. Is it a PP IPN issue? Field mapping?

Additionally, no admin email was sent by EE/CT.

On a recent order the emails got sent but were blank (both admin and customer) as well as the blank fields issue above.

Double check them where?

Using PayPal pro works just fine; it’s just PP Standard that doesn’t.

Angie, I’m currently in the process of overhauling the entire PayPal gateway and notification system. I should have a new version out soon. I think there’s probably a workaround for your current issues, but if you can wait a few days, we should have out a major revision that will hopefully reduce the complexity of troubleshooting this one.

Sounds good, Chris. Curious though - does a few days mean some time next week?

I’m going to do a little more testing today, and we’ll release this. It will either go out today or tomorrow.

Gah, I just realized this post was related to CartThrob1. In which case, I didn’t rebuild the entire thing for CT1. So let’s start over. Tell me what the problem is for you, and I’ll see what I can do to sort it out… even if that means logging in and working on it myself.

Alright, here’s what’s been going on the past 3 weeks…

The site has Website Payments Pro running fine. It also has PP Standard running and that’s where the trouble is…

People have been paying with PayPal Standard and the orders are going through but most of the information isn’t making it into the orders weblog.

Additionally, the system isn’t sending emails to either the site admin or the customer (they became aware of the issue because of PayPal’s emails). And even then there’s been at least a couple orders where the emails went out but were completely blank.

The info that isn’t showing up is mostly the shipping and billing info. We definitely have auto-return set on PayPal.

There was one order that did display an error: FAILED: Could not verify that the payment notification coming from Paypal was received correctly. In that particular case the order showed up as pending (or something other than completed) despite the payment going through on PayPal.

I have a log from the client with more details but they’re all for orders from last month that he had to fulfill. At this point we need to turn PayPal standard payment off until this is fixed as it’s causing a major disruption and his customers are concerned (at best), pissed off (at worst). I should also note that our client is definitely not happy and is pretty much regretting switching from FoxyCart to CartThrob…. not good.

Would it be possible to use PayPal Express rather than standard? If you have PayPal pro set up, then you’d only need to offer paypal standard for those that want to use a paypal account. PayPal Express, in this case is a *MUCH* better option than PayPal standard.

I’ll be happy to implement this for you immediately. It will cure all of these issues you mention above. We could have it installed and set up within hours of your response.

Over time, and after a lot of review about how our customers expect to use PayPal, I did completely rewrite it for 2.0. Much of the problems with the current version for 1.0 are based in the same issues… namely that CartThrob wasn’t built to handle transactions that are completed not in real time. For 2.0 I’ve corrected this… and I will be porting that to 1.0 as well, but it’ll take some time. Meanwhile, PayPal Express will correct these issues, so that (at least for you) so in my opinion it’s a good option.

I was out most of yesterday. Do you have a dev site you’d like me to install this on first, or just set it up on the live site ASAP?
