Hi,

I have been looking for information about how to manage inventory.  Ie. to set a number of products currently in stock.

I found this:

In the cartthrob product weblog settings,  set your CartThrob Price Modifiers custom field as an inventory field. If you find you need help beyond that, let me know, and I’ll get screenshots over to you. Suffice it to say, I know exactly what you need to do, and CT can do it.

Screenshots would be helpful.

I attached where I am expecting to see an ‘inventory’ field.  Am I looking in the wrong place?

Our client is trying to launch this tomorrow, so help would be appreciated.

We’re still working on the docs. Sorry for the confusion. Usually as we add features, the documentation for them is lacking for awhile. It’ll get better, I promise!

Inventory can either be set on a product wide basis by assigning a standard text field as the inventory field, or by assigning one group of “price modifiers” as the inventory field. So, either map an existing weblog field as an inventory field, or map a CartThrob Price Modifiers custom field as the inventory field. If you’ve called your inventory field “Product Availability” then that’s what you’d assign as an inventory field. It could be named anything “inventory, availability, stock, stock on hand, grapes, rainbow, fred” in that dropdown. You choose which field in your weblog is appropriate for handling your inventory. As long as the field is mapped as the inventory field, that’s the important thing.

How does this work if you’re using a matrix field as a price modifier? How does CT know which of the columns to use as the stock field?

There are 4 names that are recognized in matrix fields:

option, option_name,  price, inventory.

Map your matrix field containing “inventory” as your inventory field….

I’ve added an inventory column to my matrix fields but I can still add an item that has a stock of 0 to the cart. Also adding {inventory:reduce entry_id=”{entry_id}” quantity=“1”} to my template is printing out X” quantity=“1”} inside my form where X equals the value in the inventory column.

Did the screenshot help or do you need more info?

You will need an option field in order for it to work. You can leave your Colour col with the same label but use “option” as the col name.

Should the col name be option or option_value because I had a problem when using option which was discussed in another thread. I changed colour to option_value and am getting the same problems as before.

There is some confusion here. In CT1 it should be option. In CT2 it should be option_value.

Yep, I’m on EE2, sorry I realise I posted this in an EE1 thread but this is one I came across when doing a search. But even using option_value on EE2, I’m still getting the same problems.

Let’s see your item_options select in your add to cart form.
